Statewide Queensland Health and Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) Program

Summary

Queensland Health and Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) have partnered to provide a dedicated application processing and scheduling function, and additional hospital hearings for in-patients awaiting a decision on QCAT applications, such as the appointment of a substitute decision maker.

The program reduces the length-of-stay for this cohort, supporting timely patient flow within hospitals. This positively impacts the quality, safety and care provided to vulnerable patients by reducing the effects of illness and the impact of the care environment, associated with prolonged hospital admissions.

Background

Metro North Hospital and Health Service developed and have successfully delivered the program since July 2016. In July 2020, the program was expanded statewide to expedite priority and outstanding QCAT applications in Hospital and Health Services, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Enquiries

Metro North Hospital and Health Service host and manage the program on behalf of the Department of Health. For further information about the program, please contact QH-QCAT@health.qld.gov.au
