Clinician and Medical Managers Orientation Program

Clinicians and medical managers need orientation training in management to perform their roles effectively. Designed in partnership with the Metro South Hospital and Health Service, this program includes interactive and practical sessions covering topics fundamental to medical staff in management roles including:

  • a health system overview
  • understanding corporate governance
  • managing effective clinical governance
  • the fundamentals of medical employment, leadership, innovation and change management
Program eligibility

The course is available to all Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) and Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) wishing to participate in an orientation and practical management skills program to assist in their challenging role. SMOs or VMOs, regardless of their years of service, will benefit from the program’s interactive sessions and practical applications. It is recommended that SMOs or VMOs new to Queensland Health complete this course within the first six to 12 months of commencing employment.

Program fees

Clinical Excellence Queensland will cover the cost of the core program. Travel, backfill costs and any additional accommodation costs will need to be funded locally.
