In 2013, Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, was the first hospital in Australia to implement room service. This private hospital study reported an increase in nutritional intake, improved patient satisfaction and reduced plate waste and patient meal costs compared to traditional models.
From its proven success, Mater implemented the model across the remainder of its public and private facilities in 2016. And after presenting at the Clinical Excellence Showcase 2018, was introduced to the Queensland public health system.
