The Queensland Intensive Care Clinical Network (QICCN) is a multidisciplinary group of clinicians responsible for the strategic direction regarding the delivery of intensive care services across the care continuum in Queensland.
The QICCN aims to provide high level leadership, expertise and specialist clinical advice to the Department of Health, Hospital and Health Services, clinicians and other stakeholders to promote optimal health outcomes in Queensland Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
The QICCN works closely with key networks and advisory groups to progress priorities related to adult/paediatric/neonatal intensive care. Some of the current projects and priorities include:
- Consumer engagement with a focus on equitable access to care throughout all Queensland ICUs.
- Data – review and reporting processes through a coordinated, clinician-led approach that enables statewide benchmarking and peer review to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Pandemic preparedness - proactive planning, management and assistance with time sensitive and strategic responses to the ongoing waves of the COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious diseases.
- Infrastructure – expert clinical advisory role with Queensland Health Infrastructure Capital Program for expansion and new ICU buildings.
- Workforce – initiatives supporting growth and development of an engaged, highly skilled specialist critical care workforce. Advocating for long term solutions to address staff shortages, wellbeing, and retention.Education – development and review of ongoing education models and frameworks.
- Activity – reviewing funding models and service planning for intensive care services.
