Statewide Surgical Services Clinical Network

The Queensland Surgical Services Clinical Network (QSSCN) was established in 2024, as an evolution of the Queensland Surgical Advisory Committee (QSAC). As the peak body of Surgical Services clinical expertise in Queensland, the QSSCN serves as an independent point of reference for clinicians, HHSs and the Department of Health. The QSSCN guides quality and improvement reform and support clinical policy development, emphasising evidence-based practice and clinical consensus to guide implementation, optimisation and provision of high-quality patient focussed health care. The QSSCN brings together clinicians, consumers and stakeholders from across the primary, community and acute care sectors to:

• Develop an open and supportive environment for all clinicians working within surgical services in Queensland

• Provide high level advice to improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of surgical services in Queensland

• Inform health service policy and clinical practice aimed at delivering consistent, efficient and effective best practice surgical care

• Provide expertise, direction and advice to the Queensland Health Executive and hospital and health services in relation to surgery service planning and emerging issues locally, statewide and nationally

• Provide expertise direction and advice to clinicians caring for surgical patients in relation to surgery and evidence-based practice

• Identify focus areas impacting the current and future delivery of surgical services and flow through surgical units along the patient journey and continuum of care.

• Formulate and implement strategies to address current and future focus areas which impact on the delivery of surgical services

• Fostering effective education and research to progress the surgery knowledge base

• Advocate for workforce wellbeing and contemporary workforce models; aiming for Queensland Health to be a preferred surgical services employer domestically and internationally

• Engage early with consumers to seek valuable feedback on key focus areas relating to the delivery of surgical services. Seek opportunities for codesign and partnership with consumers to improve the experience of people requiring surgery
