Sepsis

Sepsis is a medical emergency that needs immediate treatment. It happens when the body is fighting an infection but it starts to attack itself. Sepsis can damage many parts of the body and can even cause death.

It is a common condition with a major impact on individuals, families, and healthcare resources. Delays in identifying and treating sepsis lead to poor outcomes, including death. The best chance of getting better from sepsis is to treat it quickly.

With rates of sepsis increasing in Queensland, Clinical Excellence Queensland is working with key stakeholders to improve early recognition and treatment of sepsis in an effort to reduce its devastating impact on families and our communities.
