Medical leads appointed for the Queensland adult sepsis program

We’re proud to announce Professor Bala Venkatesh and Dr Paul Lane have joined the Queensland Sepsis Program team! Recently appointed as co-medical leads for the adult component of the sepsis program (following an Expression of Interest process), they join Associate Professor Luregn Schlapbach and Dr Paula Lister, medical co-leads for the paediatric sepsis program.

Professor Venkatesh (pictured, right) is currently Director of Intensive Care at the Wesley Hospital and Pre-Eminent Specialist, Intensive Care Medicine at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, and holds a number of academic titles. He was the Principal Investigator of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) funded multi-centre international ADRENAL trial, the largest septic shock trial to date, and has published nearly 200 papers and 40 book chapters.

Dr Paul Lane (pictured, left) is currently the Director of Medical Services, Governance, Informatics and Professional Standards at The Townsville Hospital. He has extensive experience in simulation training and actively represents Townsville Hospital and Health Service in open disclosure. He has been a member of the Patient Safety Committee for 15 years, an Electronic Medical Record Clinical Champion and is passionate about improving sepsis care.
