Townsville hosted this year’s second Telehealth Coordinator and Medical Lead Forum on 2 August 2018. The forum was attended by Hospital and Health Service-based Telehealth coordinators and medical leads, members of the TEMSU team, and colleagues from eHealth Queensland’s Statewide Telehealth Services. Judging by the enthusiasm and buzz, it’s obvious how much we all enjoyed catching up in person to talk telehealth.
The presentations from Townsville HHS clinicians and administration officers covered locally developed innovative telehealth-enabled models of care. The session provided participants with valuable insights into how telehealth can improve access to high quality healthcare for people living in rural and regional Queensland, and gave them the chance to reflect on their contributions to the bigger picture.
Following the trend of previous forums, the second part of the day included plenty of time for free discussion and collaborative problem solving. The big-ticket items for discussion were credentialing and scope of practice for telehealth, the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme Reform project, smart referrals and tele-handover.
There’s lots of work ahead of us, but the forum provided a wonderful opportunity to plan our way forward together.
