Persistent pain affects around one million Queenslanders (or one in five) with this figure expected to increase to approximately 1.5 million by 2050. Nationally persistent pain costs the Australian economy approximately $34 billion per year. Accordingly, persistent pain burden has been recognised as a Queensland Health priority with the Queensland Health Persistent Pain Action Plan 2016-19 leading to the formation of the Statewide Persistent Pain Management Clinical Network (SPPMCN).

The Statewide Persistent Pain Management Clinical Network presented the second Persistent Pain Management Forum with a broad consumer and clinician education focus including opioid stewardship, allied health models of care, consumer stories, sub-acute pain management, telehealth, online pain management and paediatric pain care.
