About quality assurance committees

Quality assurance committees review and improve the safety and quality of health services. They’re set up under the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011.

Committees assess services, find areas for improvement, recommend changes, and check if those changes are working.

Committee members and people they work with follow strict confidentiality rules. They must keep shared details private, with serious penalties for breaches.

Legislation protects people from liability when they honestly and with good reason give information to a committee. No one can make a legal claim against them for sharing it. Information given to or created by a committee is also protected. It can't be accessed or used in legal cases. Committee members and those helping them can’t be forced to give evidence.

These protections help people feel safe to take part and work together to improve care for patients.
